Works 2000-2005
These paintings use a variety of sources as their starting points, including postcards and fragments of photographs from various sources including mass media . Juxtapositions are created through articulating different surface qualities and the use of over layering as well as combinations of imagery. In retrospect I can see how this work was influenced by my involvement with printmaking, and specifically etching in the 1990’s (see three examples below). The transfer of visual information from one surface to another, from one medium to another and the creation of an indeterminate field of meaning were interests at this time. All the paintings are acrylic with various mixed media on multiple panels, sometimes with metal inserts. They vary in size from 50cm x 40cm to 100cm x 50cm
